This past year was a big one for me. I married the love of my life, got to plan and throw the wedding of our dreams and had the opportunity to take the huge leap of leaving my comfortable and stable job as designer/design director to pursue my dream of starting my own company. Everything has seemed to come together in perfect time as if all the events of my life and career were leading up to this. It's been a long weird trip, I'll tell ya -- but so incredibly worth it.
In the midst of all of the above, I was introduced to the owner of online shoe retailer Ashbury Skies. Through sharing about the brand I was starting and my future ideas and goals, we learned we had a shared interest in the alternative wedding market. Being knee deep in everything wedding at the time, I loved the idea of being able to continue taking part in the wedding excitement even after the fun and excitement of my own would eventually come to an end. Summer 2016 was the summer I married the dude of my dreams, started my own company Charla Tedrick and the exclusive collaboration between Charla Tedrick x Ashbury Skies was born.
We collaboratively moved forward with a tight and curated range of 8 styles catering to the offbeat brides-to-be that were just like me.... looking for something unique and special to compliment their anything-but-average big day. As a soon-to-be bride myself, I saw firsthand the hole in the shoe category for funky unique wedding footwear. Being a shoe designer, I had the resources to solve that problem real quick, designing and producing my own. I took the opportunity to squeeze out two wedding shoe looks to outfit our ceremony and reception.... ultimately the two first wedding shoes in my career!
It's a beautiful thing to see life come full circle. If one of the styles from my exclusive bridal collection can complete the look for a single bride-to-be in the future, I'll call that a success. Because life's just too damn short to wear boring wedding shoes!
